LFIM Intervention Mask
LFIM stands for Li-ion Fire Intervention Mask: a full-face mask developed for the specific hazards of lithium-ion batteries and cells, offering fifteen minutes of protection against the gases and particles released in an incident.
Fifteen minutes of protection, at the moment it counts
Lithium-ion batteries and cells sit inside high-energy storage systems: in electronic equipment, in tools and in vehicles. The drawback of that build-up is that a cell can go into thermal runaway under the influence of temperature, impact or a failing BMS. Pressure builds until the cell bursts or explodes, toxic and flammable gas is released, and the exothermic reaction that follows can set off a fierce fire.
The LFIM protects for fifteen minutes against those toxic gases and shields the face against the high-speed particles released when a cell bursts. That makes it a complement to lithium extinguishing systems and protection for anyone exposed to these risks.
The LFIM is unique: the only product in Europe that protects against the specific hazards of lithium-ion batteries and cells. The mask is produced in the EU and comes ready to use, vacuum-packed. It protects against hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen fluoride (HF) and lithium hydroxide (LiOH), against soot and particles in breathing air, and against high-speed particles and shards. Deployment ranges from car parks and EV charging locations to recycling and waste processing, towing and recovery services, repair workshops, charging stations for tools and batteries, battery storage, trucks, buses and trains, and e-mobility in general.
This does not replace the fire service and it is not an extinguishing agent. It is protective equipment for the minutes before anyone else is on site.
