The hand that picks up the battery
Anyone who has to move a hot or damaged battery, to an immersion container or outside, has to touch it. These gloves are made for exactly that: they make it possible to handle a lithium-ion battery in thermal runaway. Because of their weight and insulation they are suitable for batteries up to 60 V.
The protection is based on insulation. The hotter the object, the faster that heat reaches the inside. How long the gloves hold out therefore depends mainly on the scale of the incident. Objects up to 200 °C can usually be held for 20 to 25 seconds, and brief exposure to jet flames and open fire up to 390 °C is withstood.
Above those temperatures pyrolysis sets in: the leather decomposes, the insulation drops quickly and the heat becomes noticeable inside the glove. Always keep them dry, because a wet glove conducts heat from outside to inside much faster.
